The weather was a bit chilly on this late July day, but I had time to sit outside, enjoy the sunshine and listen to the soothing sounds of the waterfall. Snapping this quick video of Abbey falls reminded me how this summer I fell in LOVE with persian shields (the purply plants in the video). They thrive in shady conditions, but tolerate the heat. As a Northwestern alum I’m thinking I need to have these in a giant planter on my porch – with a little wildcat hiding somewhere in the foliage (ha!). Seriously, every time I pass by them I have to stop because they are just SO purple, they demand to be admired. It’s also cool how they have white highlights on the leaves closer to the ground. They also grew super fast which makes me regret that I didn’t do a time lapse of the past two months.

The beautiful persian shields chilling out in the shade

I love shooting from different angles. Boxwood, persian shields and rocks in the waterfall

The leaves closer to the ground, further from the sun are a very light shade of purple, almost white. Ah, I love this plant!

And one more! Sunshine twinkling off the waterfall creating a lovely bokeh as a backdrop for this happy little persian shield. So pretty!
