Contact us to set up some time to meet at your home. Whether you have a clear vision for your dream design or a vague idea of what you want – we will meet, face to face, to discuss the project. We ask that you provide a plat of survey at our first meeting.
Our estimate turn around time is typically two weeks. This may vary depending on the time of year and scope of the project. We will set up time to meet at your home and review the cost estimate along with some reference photos. Depending on the scope of your project, estimate meetings may also include conceptual photos, a drawing based on your plat of survey and/or a conceptual video. You will be given the cost estimate to keep, everything else will be presented electronically and only accessible after the meeting if you decide to move forward.
After the estimate meeting, if you would like to move forward in any way we ask for a $250 design retainer. The retainer includes one round of minor changes. For projects which include hardscape and landscape elements, you will receive a scaled drawing based on the plat of survey. For landscape only projects, a conceptual photo will be presented.
How to Prepare for the Consultation
We strongly suggest that you have a budget in mind at the beginning of this project and communicate that with us up front so that the initial estimate meeting is meaningful. Budget ranges are very helpful as well and allow us to offer you creative options.
Hardscape OptionsReview paver options before we meet so we have a sense of what you like . We are an authorized Unilock Contractor. Take a look at their website to see which stone speaks to you! We also do natural stone patios, walkways, etc. with Flagstone and Bluestone.
We will always offer our professional opinion as well based on your style and the general aesthetic and color of your home.
If you have any strong preferences for specific types of plants, colors or styles – please let us know and we will keep that in mind during the design process.
We operate on a first come first served basis. As a small family business we generally approach one project at a time, depending on the scope. We will work closely with you throughout the project to discuss any changes to the plan in order to achieve the best end result.

It’s not about a waterfall. Or pretty trees. It’s about your nephews splashing their feet in that waterfall on the first hot day of spring. And your baby falling asleep to the sound of the rushing water shaded by the branches. This is what we mean by “we set the scene. you write the story”. We […]
One of our favorite places in the whole world is the Chicago Botanic Gardens. It is where my mom and dad found inspiration for the waterfall that they built in their front yard that has become a local attraction to those that stroll the streets of Skokie. It’s one of those places that you can […]
Karen Azalea. The word on the street is that this rhododendron is a very popular option for foundation plantings. Karen blooms in the spring with beautiful pink flowers and the leaves turn burgundy in the fall.
I might make it a mission this summer to photograph every different kind of coral bell I can find. There are so many! We like to use coral bells in our landscape designs along the borders in our planting beds. The top picture is Circus coral bells. I thought they were a little too crazy […]
We are a small family business. The Abbey “office” has always been my parents house at 8235 Tripp Avenue, which is basically a landscape adventure land. This is our family on the 4th of July. This week we will finish up the last of the fall clean-ups and gear up for the long winter ahead! You might be wondering – what do landscape companies do in the cold, blustery winter that takes over the Chicagoland area?! Our lives begin to be very much taken over by the word – SNOW! […]
The weather was a bit chilly on this late July day, but I had time to sit outside, enjoy the sunshine and listen to the soothing sounds of the waterfall. Snapping this quick video of Abbey falls reminded me how this summer I fell in LOVE with persian shields (the purply plants in the video). […]
On Sunday afternoons our family can usually be found congregated at Mom and Dad’s. As I walk in the door my mom shouts “You have to do that easter egg hunt today, the kids won’t stop talking about it!” You might be thinking, “An easter egg hunt, but it’s June?!”. And you would be right […]
